smell in car causing illness?
Sara asked:
Okay, my husband brought a car via craiglist, salvage title, it has a sweet smell through out the car and made him sick so he went to brought another car from a certified dealer this time and just yesterday he told me the new car has a smell causing him to be sick, he was up since 6am today throwing up.. is it just him? He went to two different auto garage today and they can’t find anything wrong with the new car, it was in perfect condition and run perfect please advise.

Maybe your husband has a stomach virus and the smell in the new car is just a coincidence. Either that or he may be allergic to whatever they spray in the cars to make that new car smell. You should take him to a doctor who can determine if it is an auto-immune disorder, an allergy, or another underlying cause.

Might not be the car. It could be mold in the seats, could be a number of things. Is the exhaust pipe stopped up? Carbon Monoxide poison…
Air out the car, have it cleaned. Have him wear a little mask in the car for a few days, it might be motion sickness from driving… sounds dumb but its possible

Some people are very sensitive to smells – I get migraines from some perfumes, from some food smells, etc. Try asking them not to spray any smells in them in the future, and in the mean time, let the car air out over night – open all the windows if you can put it in a garage or something. That will help him some.

People can develop extreme sensitivities to certain chemicals, so maybe that's what has happened. There isn't much that can be done for chemical sensitivity except avoid exposure to the chemical.
If you husband experiences nausea frequently and the car is just one more thing that triggers the problem, there could be some underlying medical condition.

I would air the car out and shampoo the inside out.
