Torque Converter Snapped? Can this happen?
Angry Camel asked:
I recently bought an '01 Isuzu Rodeo (6 cyl. auto) that had a blown engine (a piston rod snapped while driving down the interstate.) I put a salvaged engine in the car, but used the original torque converter, transmission, computer, intake manifold, wiring etc. Everything fit together beutifuly and the salvage engine started right up, but the car would never shift into gear. We took it into a transmission specialist who tells us that something snapped in the torque converter and it needs to be replaced (along with a hand full of bushings, gaskets etc). My question is if the car was driving fine before the engine blew, what are the chances that something is now seiously wrong with the ******? can a torque converter snap as a result of a blown engine or an improper re-install? Or am I getting worked over by the mechanic?

The converter CAN be damaged by a high -reving engine being slammed to a stop real fst-as in when the rod snapped.

sounds like someone did not line up! the pump on the transmission converter, its common mistake breaks the pump housing on the transmission! good luck!

i like dillys answer. it happened to me before. if the torque converter isnt in all the way then when u put the engine in and tighten it up it forces the converter in and if its not lined up with the pump then it breaks (snaps) and the ****** pump goes so it needs to be reapir'd. i did it to a chevy pickup and man i was pissed.
