transmission issues here?
eel_werdna asked:
i recently noticed that my car was starting to lung into gears. Not to my surprise, the check engine light came on, i took my car to the auto shop (advance auto parts) the codes went through the computer and the asscociate working there told me that i needed another transmission speed sensor…however i dont feel like buying one used i want to either try and see if there are any wires loose or if it just needs to be replaced. SO, my question is, where is the transmission speed sensor located (on the ****** no doubt) and what kind of tools would i need to take to the salvage yard should the occasion arise. all answers will be very much so appreciated. thanks in advance

These sensors do go, your mechanic would have noticed if the wires where cut or loose, I believe it is in the ****** on this car and I would not recommend a used sensor here.
Try adding some lucas oil ****** additive to your ****** oil, I know it sounds silly but this stuff works miracles on older transmissions and its only 15 bucks. You should notice a change in days if it works and if it doesn't you really only wasted 15 bucks and have to get a new sensor.

Both sensors are on top of ******. If bad they will code and give a default gear range. If the input sensor fails the ecu looks at engine rpm. if the output fails it defaults 2nd gear. the input sensor is located near engine side of trans.
